India may lend more to Sri Lanka

BUY-SELL | HELP WANTED | MATRIMONIAL

New Delhi, April 13

India may step into the breach with an additional $2 billion credit line as China has remained noncommittal on its $2.5 billion aid to Sri Lanka despite making the announcement over a month ago. The Indian credit line for diesel is likely to end next month.

Sri Lanka in turn has given Indian strategic comfort. It has got over its reluctance and announced participation with IOC to modernise the strategically located Trincomalee petroleum reserve containers. It has also awarded a container complex in Colombo Port to the Adani Group. It is also an enthusiastic partner in building regional maritime security architecture along with India, Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles and Bangladesh. —
