Manaus (Brazil), Dec 15 (IANS) A construction worker died after falling from the roof of Arena da Amazonia stadium, a venue for 2014 FIFA World Cup, in the Brazilian city of Manaus in province of Amazonas.

Marcleudo de Melo Ferreira, 22, fell from a height of 35-meter when a cable broke as he placed a protective membrane on the roof here Saturday, reports Xinhua.

He was still alive when paramedics arrived but died shortly after at a Manaus hospital.

Stadium constructor Andrade Gutierrez said construction could not be resumed until Monday.

Work is being carried out around the clock at six World Cup stadiums in a bid to be ready for the FIFA World Cup next June and July.

The game's governing body FIFA has already conceded that at least three stadiums are set to miss the original Dec 31 deadline for the completion of construction work.

The incident was the fifth death in the 2014 World Cup stadium construction.

Earlier this month two were killed when a crane collapsed at Sao Paulo's Itaquerao stadium. In March, a worker died after falling from a 5m structure, also at Arena da Amazonia.

And in June last year a 21-year-old man fell 30m to his death at the Estadio Nacional in Brazil's capital Brasilia.
