New Delhi, July 8

Stirring the poll pot in the poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has announced that the government would build roads and name them after kar sevaks, who were killed in the 1990 Ayodhya firing.

The Opposition, sensing the game plan, has hit back, claiming the move was “only a political stunt” before the Assembly elections. Maurya, who was in Ayodhya, lashed out at then CM Mulayam Singh Yadav and lamented that the SP government had fired bullets at unarmed Ram devotees, who had come for Ram Lalla “darshan”.

Reacting to the state government’s proposition, senior UP Congress leader Rashid Alvi said the BJP came to power on the promise of establishing “Ram rajya”. “But after almost five years now, the state government has left people with no choice but to chant ‘Ram nam satya hai’,” he said.

This, he said, was evident from what happened in the state during the second Covid wave, with hundreds of bodies floating in the Ganga.
