‘Why Can’t We Take Alcohol To Matches?’ Photo Of Fan With Champagne In EngVsNZ Sparks Debate

The first of two Tests between England Vs New Zealand remained a nail-biter till the very end of the clash and goes on to show what the Indian cricket team will be facing off against during the World Test Championships final between 18 and 22 June.

However, on Sunday during the match, the cameraman caught a glimpse of a couple of spectators in the stands celebrating with each other while a lady carried a bottle of champagne in her hands.

They are allowed to carry a bottle of champagne and drink in the stadium in England.

Stadiums in India don’t even allow to carry the paper glass of water from the counter to our seats. #ENGvNZ pic.twitter.com/y0rHKVoitc

This quickly caught the attention of the Indian fans of the game, who got into a hilarious but extremely important discussion about why exactly are we not allowed to carry alcohol, or even soft drinks to the stands when going to watch a match.

One of the most common arguments came in the form of the lack of sanitary and hygiene-related discipline which is put on display during these matches, especially in India and it happens way more frequently than any educated person would expect to see.

We don’t even put our trash it dustbin do you think we even deserve to carry anything inside the stadium?

They can carry literally everything. There’s even seating. They setup their own camps. For them Cricket is an Experience. They clear their litter at the end. We have a long way to go.

Then came the issue of the way fans behave during the games on Indian soil. From balling up papers and throwing it on the players to creating a scene for tiny problems, our fans are infamous for being not the most “well-behaved” spectators in the world.

Safety first. Coz overseas they don’t even throw a paper inside and our crowds aren’t disciplined enough to control themselves 100%. All it takes one to throw something and mass follows, unfortunately and that behaviour makes it difficult for genuine fans.

That also depends on crowd manners and behaviour. In India due to some maniacs in crowd all these restrictions are there(for e. g coin ban for common spectators) most of the ground in SENA are open without any grills at lower tier.. Becoz spectators maintain and follow discipline

Consider allowing Alcohol in a glass bottle in stadiums like Kanpur , Kolkata !!! One word, Fans in SENA countries are more civilized when it comes to crowd behaviour towards the players and playing field !!!

Finally, came the more business-oriented people, talking about how allowing the fans to bring items such as drinks and food from home would lead to the loss of opportunities for the stadium vendors to make a buck or two and maybe that’s why the stadiums in India do not allow this norm.

If we bring our own food it’s bad for business same as in theatres. Everything aside it’s wonderful to see full packed stadiums anywhere. The Englishman claps, the West Indian drums, the srilankan trumpets, the Australian cheers and the Indian roars it’s the Cricketing Culture.

It is safe to say that the BCCI will not be allowing alcohol inside the stadiums anytime soon. For now, the only thing the fans of the Men in Blue can do is sit back and hope to see their stars put up a show during the one-off WTC match against Kane Williamson and the Blackcaps and finally help skipper Virat Kohli realise one of his biggest dreams, winning an ICC Trophy for the country.
