Water bodies across Telangana record heavy inflows

Karimnagar: Heavy rains lashed several parts of erstwhile Karimnagar district on Monday, with highest of 100.5 mm rainfall recorded in Maredupalli of Palakurthi mandal, Peddapalli district.

In Jagitial, Dandapalli of Velgatur mandal received 98.8 mm rainfall followed by Gollapalli-89.0, Gullakota-78.8, Polasa-78.0, Jagtial-67.0, Metpalli-65.5, Sarangapur-53.5 and Raikal-52.0 mm.

While Tadikal, Shankaraparnam mandal of Karimnagar district received 52.5 mm, Bornapalli of Huzurabad mandal got 57.8 mm.

While all water bodies are getting copious inflows, low-lying areas were inundated by flood water. Sripada Yellampalli project has been getting 2,18,804 cusecs of water and 2,41,970 water was being released from the reservoir through 25 flood gates. About 18.2305 tmc water is available as against its gross storage capacity of 20.175 tmc water.

Meanwhile, Rajarajeshwara (Mid Manair) reservoir is receiving 11,794 cusecs. 16,447 cusecs water is being released downstream by lifting seven flood gates. Of 27.5 tmc storage capacity, 24.402 tmc of water is available in the project.

In all, 16 floodgates of Lower Manair Dam were lifted to let off 45,301 cusecs. While the project is getting 43,180 cusecs of water, 22.539 tmc water is available in the reservoir as against its storage capacity of 24.084 tmc.

A total of 1,32,000 cusecs water is being released from Parvathi barrage by lifting 60 flood gates. Reservoir is getting 1,01,555 cusecs. Of 8,83 tmc storage capacity, 4.25 tmc water is available in the project.

BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar along with Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao conducted a meeting with officials of various departments to discuss about steps to be taken in the wake of incessant rains.

Kamalakar instructed officials to be in the field and take steps to ensure that water does not stagnate on roads. Minister advised the officials to make holes on the footpaths to allow rainwater into drainages. He wanted the officials to take steps to ensure people staying in low-lying areas should not face any difficulties.

The Minister also advised the officials to establish a permanent setup to tackle the rain situation. Collector RV Karnan, Municipal Commissioner Garima Agarwal also participated in the meeting held in the corporation’s meeting hall.

Rajanna-Sircilla Collector Anuraj Jayanthi visited Mid Manair reservoir and inquired about water level by interacting with project officials. He instructed officials to be alert in the wake of continued rains.
