Watch: Keshav Maharaj slipped and then was run out as he tried to snatch a single off an overthrow during South Africa’s clash with Australia in the T20 World Cup.

The day turned from bad to worse for the Proteas as Maharaj was embarrassingly run-out after the batter attempted a run off a misfield. Maharaj sliced a Pat Cummins delivery to point, and the fielder rushed in and threw the ball towards non-striker Aiden Markram’s end. Markram, who was out of his crease in search of a single, turned around to ground his bat and, hence, was unable to run for the overthrows after the ball reached the fielder at long-on.

Maharaj, who had already set out for a run, comically slipped onto his backside as he looked to turn back and go back to his crease. Though Glenn Maxwell’s throw to the keeper was wide, Matthew Wade had enough time to effect what turned out to be a comical run-out in the end.

South Africa could manage only 118-9 in their 20 overs against Australia, with Markram top-scoring with 40 off 36 balls.
