Watch: Hyderabad youngster swept away in Manjeera

Sangareddy: An older brother’s attempt to save his younger sibling who fell into Manjeera river while trying to take a selfie standing on the banks of the river proved costly for the former as he was washed away in the strong current on Sunday evening.

Even as Mohammad Saif (23), a resident of Tolichowki area in Hyderabad, fell into the river, his elder brother Mohammad Sohail (25) jumped into the river to save his brother’s life. While Saif was rescued by irrigation staff from the crest gates at Singur dam using a rope, Sohail was swept away.

The authorities closed the crest dates to search for Sohail but could not find him. Later, locals in several areas downstream of the river found his body floating in the water but could not retrieve it. Efforts are still on to fish out the body.
