Watch: In the Ireland Inter-provincial Twenty20 Trophy on Friday, Fionn Hand, a domestic seam bowler, plucked a return catch out of thin air off a full-blown drive from Simi Singh.
Return catches are some of the hardest to take, and even those that stick rarely come off the meat of the bat. In a T20 game between Munster Reds and Leinster Lightning, Ireland all-rounder Simi Singh, opening the batting, was on 44 when he hit a length ball straight down the ground at Hand.
22 runs had come off the five balls in the over already, but Hand turned his fortunes around with a spectacular return catch. Hand, moving to his left on his follow-through, stopped in his tracks and moved to the right side to complete a brilliant catch.
However, it was Leinster Lightning who won out, triumphing by seven wickets with four overs and five balls in hand.
