The 64-year old liquor baron, who was the owner of the IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore as well as the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines (KFA), fled India after facing charges of fraud and money laundering.

KFA had borrowed a sum of around Rs 9000 crores from several Indian banks, before fleeing to the UK and being declared as a fugitive economic offender on a plea of the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

An SBI-led consortium of 11 banks that had given Mallya those loans, had sought restoration of his properties that had been seized by the ED.
