Vaishnav Samaj’s 34th health fair a hit

ADDISON (IL) — The 34th Health Fair was successfully completed at Vaishnav Samaj of Midwest Temple in Addison Illinois on June 15 and June 22.

The goal was to provide medical check-up to all those who may not be able to afford medical services due to insurance and medical coverage problems.

The event was sponsored by the temple and the Global Organization of Peoples of Indian Origins (GOPIO).

According to Jayanti Thakkar, this was the 34th Health Fair coordinated by him. The first one was started at Manav Seva Mandir back in 1989 and he continued this service for last 25 years in other temples. Thanks to his selfless and dedicated work on people’s health check-up, more than 9,500 patients have benefited so far.

This year, the Health Fair was organized in two parts. The first part was on Father’s Day, June 15.

On this day, height/weight, blood pressure, blood draw, EKG, urine analysis, bone density, and peps and mammogram registrations were performed. Vital data such as height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, were checked for each participant.

More than 75 health professionals provided their volunteer services on this day with 4 EKG machines used in the camp.

The second part of the Health Fair was on June 22 when all those came on June 15 came back for physician consultation.
There were also presentations on nutrition, diet and diabetes education.

The Health Fair was well organized and went off very smoothly with beneficiaries being happy that they received the medical services under one roof.
