Urmila Slams BJP Leader Who Claimed Dilip Kumar Kept A Hindu Name To Earn Money

We lost a shining gem two days ago, when India’s biggest superstar and the first star, Dilip Kumar, left for his heavenly abode leaving behind his memories. The entire world has been paying respect to the late actor on social media and some are even sharing anecdotes and memories they have with him.

BJP leader Arun Yadav’s condolence message has left a lot of people with a bad taste in their mouth as his tweet about the legendary actor didn’t go down too well with some people. Actress and politician Urmila Matondkar even called him out for claiming that Dilip Kumar took a Hindu name to earn money.

Shame on you

In an interview with PTI, she further elaborated on her displeasure. “It is sad to see that a legend of our country is being trivialised by saying that he kept a Hindu name to earn money. One needs to show dignity and class. He has done so many socially relevant films. He helped the widows of soldiers who lost their lives in Kargil war and did innumerable amounts of social work. It is because of this particular thinking of these people that there are many people who think it is fine to create a constant communal division and whitewash it. Shame on thinking like this. He (Yadav) needs to grow up. He needs to get the information correct,”

Legendary actor Dilip Kumar was born Mohammed Yousuf Khan on December 11, 1922 in Peshawar, Pakistan. He changed his name to Dilip Kumar after it was suggested to him by producer Devika Rani, who was the head of the Bombay Talkies. The words used on the internet can often hurt sentiments if not used with caution.
