Undocumented Bangladeshi Migrant Suffers Fatal Heart Attack During Border Patrol Encounter

CHAMPLAIN, NY- Champlain Border Patrol agents responded to a call about three individuals walking on Perry Mills Road near Champlain, NY. Approximately 2.5 miles southwest of the Champlain Port of Entry, agents encountered three males, one of whom claimed to be a Bangladeshi citizen who had crossed the border illegally. The migrants were transported to the Champlain Station at 7:02 a.m., where they were processed and placed in a holding cell.

At 7:34 a.m., one migrant complained of chest pains. EMS was requested, and upon arrival at 7:46 a.m., evaluated the migrant using a language support service. Despite normal vital signs, the migrant declined hospital transport, and EMS departed at 7:59 a.m.

Shortly after, the migrant collapsed. Agents called EMS, initiated CPR, and used an AED, delivering three shocks. EMS returned at 8:21 a.m., administered further care, and transported the migrant to Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:42 a.m. Investigations by New York State Police, CBP OPR, and DHS OIG are ongoing.
