HI INDIA NEWS DESK
SACRAMENTO, CA — Covered California announced on June 11 that over 158,000 Californians stayed insured through the Medi-Cal to Covered California enrollment program over the past year. Starting in April 2023, Medi-Cal resumed its renewal process post-COVID-19, reassessing eligibility for over 15 million members. In May 2023, Covered California and the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) launched a program to automatically enroll individuals losing Medi-Cal coverage into low-cost health plans through Covered California if they qualify for financial assistance.

By early June 2024, this program helped 158,100 Californians remain insured. “Our partnership with DHCS has ensured nearly 160,000 Californians transition smoothly from Medi-Cal to Covered California, preventing coverage gaps,” said Covered California Executive Director Jessica Altman. While many may find coverage through new employment, those without other options can rely on Covered California.

A survey showed that 82 percent of the first cohort retained coverage, with 31 percent enrolling through Covered California. The Medi-Cal to Covered California program continues, automatically enrolling eligible individuals in plans offering maximum financial assistance.
