Tokyo stocks open higher

Tokyo, Sep 16 (IANS) Tokyo stocks opened modestly higher on Wednesday as sentiment was boosted by gains in European and the US stocks overnight and the US dollar’s resurgence against the yen.

At 9.15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 148.86 points, or 0.83 percent, to 18,175.34, Xinhua news agency reported.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 8.72 points, or 0.60 percent, to 1,470.96.

Gainers were led by rubber products, mining and machinery.
