Tie-dye makes a trendy comeback

The one thing that you’ll for sure find in any celeb’s wardrobe right now is a tie-dye outfit. Be it Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Ananya Pandey, Janhvi Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Tamannaah Bhatia, or Hollywood stars like Gigi Hadid, Rihanna, Nina Dobrev and Kendall and Kylie Jenner, the tie-dye trend has taken the world of fashion by storm.

It was a thing in the ’60s and the ’70s, but it has now made a huge comeback on fashion runways. It has appeared in spring/summer 2021 collections of Christian Dior and Stella McCartney, among others brands such as Givenchy, Prada and Versace.

So, what’s tie-dye all about? It usually involves folding, twisting, pleating or crumpling of fabric and binding it with string or rubber bands, and then applying dyes. Fashion experts say that it has become somewhat of a comfort fashion for people in the midst of a pandemic. Not only does it remind one of simpler times of the past, but it has only become a DIY (Do it yourself) fun experience for some. People share that the bright colours that are generally associated with tie-dye outfits are also uplifting their spirits in these gloomy times.

Trend forecasters predict that the tie-dye trend will dominate the rest of 2021 as well. So whether it is in the form of tees, trousers, dresses and skirts, or even sweatshirts and denim, we all need to stock up our wardrobes pretty soon! And if you don’t want to go for a hippie or loud look, experts say that you can even rock the trend in ethnic wear in the form of saris and kurtas.
