This club, it’s my family: Midfielder Rowlin Borges extends contract with ISL champions Mumbai City

Midfielder Rowlin Borges extended his contract with reigning Indian Super League champions Mumbai City FC by three years, running until May 2024, the club announced on Saturday.

The agreement signed between the two parties also has a clause that Borges can opt to further extend his contract by one more year.

The 29-year-old was a vital cog in the Mumbai City squad that clinched the unique double in the 2020-’21 season, winning the ISL League Winners’ Shield (group stage toppers) as well as the ISL Trophy. Borges scored the decisive penalty in sudden death when MCFC reached their first-ever final by defeating FC Goa.

The Goan midfield lynchpin made 20 appearances for the Islanders in the 2020-’21 season, scoring twice and providing one assist. With 1124 completed passes, Borges finished the season in the top three passers of the league list.

Borges, who has featured in 83 matches in ISL overall, established himself in the NorthEast United FC setup after joining them back in 2016.
