RENO-NV- The global Hindu community has expressed its outrage at a Swiss-based restaurant chain, “Holy Cow! Gourmet Burger Co.”, which sells beef burgers and is named after the revered animal in Hinduism. The chain, which has 17 outlets across Switzerland, has been accused of trivializing and belittling one of the most deeply held articles of faith for Hindus worldwide.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, who is the President of the Universal Society of Hinduism, has issued a statement from Nevada in the USA, saying that cows are considered sacred and venerated in Hinduism. Zed has called on the restaurant chain and its CEO Adrian Stadelmann to urgently reconsider its name, as it is seen as a clear case of religious appropriation, sacrilege, and ridicule.

Zed has also urged the 32 Swiss partners of HCGBC, including “Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland” in Le Bouveret, and delivery partners, “Just Eat,” “Uber Eats,” and “smood.ch,” to withdraw their strategic partnership if the company failed to reconsider its name. Zed argued that students at the Culinary Arts Academy should not be taught that insensitivity towards others is acceptable.

HCGBC, an award-winning Swiss fresh gourmet burger chain, was established in 2009 and sells 14 different beef burgers, including the “Elvis”. It refers to its grills as “sacred”.
