‘Sunny’ movie is trending, netizens bring in the other Sunny too

Hyderabad: Malayalam movie Sunny premiered on Amazon Prime a few hours ago, and soon enough, the Jayasurya starrer is trending on social media, especially Twitter.

The movie revolves around one man, Sunny, who has returned from Dubai during the pandemic and is on the edge. Beginning with his life in quarantine, the Ranjith Shankar-film deals with Sunny’s emotional turmoil, and also delves into his past, personal setbacks and failures.

Jayasurya’s 100th movie and his contribution to the Malayalam movie presence on OTT has got social media talking, with the movie’s name trending all over.

‘Sunny’ is not the only recent Malayalam movie that has dealt with the Covid-19 pandemic and quarantine in detail, and on OTT. Fahadh Faasil’s ‘Joji’, which won the Best International Feature Film award at the Swedish International Film Festival (SIFF) 2021, and Biju Menon’s ‘Aarkkariyam’ were prominent ones, while novelist Anvar Abdullah wrote, directed and acted in ‘Love in the Time of Corona’, also a single man movie like ‘Sunny’.

Interestingly, though ‘Sunny’ is slightly on the darker side, there have been many who are managing to find some light-hearted comedy when the movie began trending, with some playing on the name ‘Sunny’, saying that the only person they could associate with that name was Sunny Leone.
