Sikh temple hosts photo exhibition on heritage

The exhibition by the renowned photo artist Sondeep Shankar was a pioneering work which showcases the rich Sikh Heritage and traditions. The exhibition was sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi and was co-hosted by the Indian Consulate in Chicago, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn and PCS.

 

A warm welcome was accorded to Dr Sayeed by the management led by president Dr Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal and Beant Singh Boparai.

Addressing the congregation, Dr Sayeed spoke highly of the rich Sikh heritage and the openness and inclusive nature of the Sikh culture personally experienced by him over the years through his many Sikh friends. 

 

A 'siropa', an honorary dress, was presented to him by the temple management .

 

Dr Sayeed had a meeting with the family of Satwant Singh Kaleka, founder of the temple, who was killed by a gunman last year, and assured of cooperation from his office. 

 

“This exhibition will generate awareness and understanding about the Sikh American community among their fellow Americans,"  said Beant Singh Boparai and Dr Harjinder Khaira, who helped in organizing the exhibition.
