New Delhi, June 28

The Serum Institute of India (SII) on Monday applied to the European Union’s regulatory body for the inclusion of Covishield on the list of jabs approved for the green pass vaccine passport programme that will allow inoculated people visit EU nations.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) said the matter would be considered when an application is received for it.

CEO Adar Poonawalla said, “I realise that a lot of Indians inoculated with Covishield are facing travel issues. I have taken this up both with regulators and at the diplomatic level and hope for an early resolution.”

The SII earlier consulted the government on the matter. Sources said the SII had not applied for EMA approval earlier since it was not supplying doses to the EU.
