Sensex danced to fluctuating note on the counting day

Mumbai, May 16 (IANS) The 30-sensitive index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) broke the 25,000-points mark on Friday, had an erratic movement, rallying more than 1,000 points and ending just above 200 points on the counting day for the 16th Lok Sabha election results.

The Sensex gained a whopping 986.11 points, or 4.13 percent in the early period of trade around 9.30 a.m. after opening at 24,271.54 points from its previous day’s close of 23,905.60 points.

The Sensex then continued its upward mobility as counting trends showed the Bharatiya Janata Party taking a big lead in the poll results.

Around 10.50 a.m., the Sensex touched the 25,000-point mark for the first time in its history, and recorded the highest ever mark of 25,375.63 points.

Around 11.50 a.m., the Sensex came down to 24,760.92 points from 25,375.63 points, still maintaining a gain of 800 points.

The slipping trend continued in the afternoon trade session. Around 01.45 p.m., Sensex was ruling at 24,055.67 points, up 150.07 points, or 0.63 percent.

The benchmark index ended the fluctuating trade up 216 points or 0.90 percent at 24,121.74 points.
