SAN JOSE, CA — The San Jose Police Officers’ Association has endorsed San Jose city council member Ash Kalra in his campaign for California State Assembly in District 27.

This endorsement is the latest in a list of individuals and organizations that have come out publicly in support of Kalra because of his leadership and commitment to bettering the lives of San Jose’s families, seniors, children and businesses.

“San Jose police officers have worked closely for years with city council member Ash Kalra. He’s always had our backs. He’s fought to put more officers on our streets, battled to restore the SJPD burglary unit and warned against disbanding the highly acclaimed Violent Crimes Enforcement Unit,” said SJPOA president Paul Kelly.

“Now we need Ash to take our fight for more effective law enforcement to Sacramento.”

Kalra began his career in public service as an attorney for the Santa Clara County Public Defender’s Office. For 11 years, he spent much of his time helping clients through drug treatment court where they were given the opportunity to complete a rehabilitation program and turn their lives around.

In 2008, the Indian American was elected to the San Jose City Council. He has been a strong voice for public safety, better schools, improved public transportation and a healthier environment.

The SJPOA represents over 1100 men and women of the San Jose Police Department. It has been serving San Jose Police Officers and the San Jose Community since 1962.
