EDISON, NJ — Indian American restaurateur Sunil Pendse is recovering after being stabbed and pistol-whipped during a robbery at his Shezan Restaurant and Banquet Hall in Edison, N.J. on September 5.

Pendse was attacked by two armed robbers bent on grabbing some cash, the police said, adding that the businessman was pushed down to the floor by robbers who also smashed a computer.

He said the robbers entered the eatery around5:30 pm as the front door was generally unlocked.

Pendse said one man smacked him in the face twice with a gun and threw him into the table and on the floor.

They then forced Pendse down the hall and into his office, demanding he open the safe, as one of the men stabbed him in his right arm. They took the cash he had and locked him inside the office before vanishing.

"Every time, they were using the word ‘we’ll kill you, we’ll shoot you, show me the money,’" the restaurant owner told the police.
