London, Feb 4 : English football club Queen Park Rangers FC (QPR) manager Harry Redknapp has resigned, citing a knee replacement surgery he is set to have.

The 67-year-old told club chairman Tony Fernandes Tuesday of his decision, reports Xinhua.

"I need immediate surgery. If I can't give 100 percent, it's better for someone else to take over," Redknapp said.

Head of football operations Les Ferdinand and academy coach Chris Ramsey will take temporary charge.

Redknapp led QPR to promotion to the English Premier League last season via the Championship play-offs but the West London club is staying at second bottom.

"I have had such a fantastic time at QPR. I would like to thank the board, the players and all my staff, and especially the supporters who have been absolutely fantastic to me," said Redknapp, who took over QPR in November 2012.
