Reality Of How The Staircase Scene From ‘HAHK’ Was Shot Will Change How You Feel About It

One of the iconic movies of the 90s which was a part of our growing up is Hum Aapke Hai Koun. The movie which led to everyone loving Madhuri and Salman and dancing to Didi tera dewar deewana also traumatised us and made the kid inside us cry when we watched the beloved Pooja Bhabhi fall down that damn staircase which led to her dying and bringing a twist in the entire love story.

The scene turned into a viral meme when gen Z discovered this classic movie. The scene is surely saddening for the kid in us and especially since she falls right after celebrating and dancing while singing ‘lo chali main, apne dewar ki barat leke’ was cathartic. In fact so many people demanded an explanation around how and why this happened.

It was not until recently that the sad kid in us found out that in reality, the staircase was made out of a freaking sponge and our beloved Pooja Bhabhi was not hurt at all. Renuka Shahane spilled the beans on what went down while shooting this famous scene. “People actually don’t know that the staircase was made of sponge, so I don’t get hurt at all. Sooraj Barjataya is very particular about all this. He wouldn’t let anyone get hurt. In fact, it became more tough for me because I had to act like I am hurt and in pain,” she exclaimed. I mean, everything we believed was a lie! Damn, I don’t know about the stairs, but this truth hurts the paradigm and the pain we felt for Bhabhi ji.
