Paddler Somyajit beats Sharath Kamal to enter final

New Delhi, Jan 8: Young paddler Soumyajit Ghosh (BPCL) got the better of veteran Achanta Sharath Kamal (IOCL) in the semi-finals of the 34th PSPB Inter Unit Table Tennis Tournament here Thursday.

The 21-year-old Soumyajit won 4-2 (11-9, 11-8, 10-12, 10-12, 11-8, 12-10) to set up a final date with Soumyadeep Roy (IOCL), who defeated national champion Sanil Shetty (BPCL) 4-1 (11-5, 11-8, 11-6, 8-11, 13-11) at the Jamia Milia Islamia Sports Complex.

In the first women's singles semi-final Mouma Das (OIL) got the better of Neha Aggarwal (BPCL) 4-1 (11-5, 11-9, 6-11, 11-8, 11-9) while in the other last four match K. Shamini (IOCL) beat Divya Deshpande (ONGC) in a closely contested match 4-2 (11-9, 10-12, 11-2, 7-11, 11-4, 11-9).

In the men’s doubles final, Anthony Amal Raj and G. Sathiyan (ONGC) beat Soumyajit and Sanil 11-7, 7-11, 11-6, 6-11, 11-9. 

The women’s doubles final was won by the ONGC pair of Madhurika Patkar and Pooja Sahesrebudhe as they defeated the pair of Mouma Das and Nandita Saha 3-1 (12-10, 8-11, 11-4, 11-9).
