NAPERVILLE, IL- Qasim for Congress launched its campaign in Illinois’ 11th district with overwhelming support, gathering more than 100 enthusiastic supporters, and being joined by over a dozen local and state elected officials at The Burger Life in Naperville on Saturday. Qasim Rashid, the candidate, passionately spoke about his upbringing in DuPage County and his lifelong dedication as a human rights lawyer fighting for equal justice for all.

During his speech, Rashid highlighted key issues that are central to his campaign, including economic justice, addressing the climate crisis, ensuring access to healthcare, tackling the opioid epidemic, and making the economy work for working families. He criticized the incumbent for compromising on these issues due to corporate donors, emphasizing the need for a change in representation.

Rashid expressed his determination to run a principled and honest campaign based on the values that matter to working people. He asserted that the campaign’s objective is not only to participate but to win, and he aims to demonstrate the power of a people-funded movement.

Drawing from his personal experiences growing up in a low-income household, Rashid underscored his commitment to fighting for the rights of low-income families today. He recounted moments of financial struggle, working at a union job from a young age to help support his family.

The event also featured speeches from influential figures such as DuPage Township Trustee Reem Townsend, State Senator Rachel Ventura, and actor Lamorne Morris, all of whom shared their personal experiences with Rashid and their belief in his ability to represent Illinois District 11 effectively.

Townsend praised Rashid for standing up for her when she faced attacks on her faith, while Ventura criticized the incumbent’s failure to adequately address the district’s needs. Ventura highlighted her own near-victory in the 2020 primary race, underscoring the importance of perseverance and bravery in the face of challenges.

Actor Lamorne Morris, who knew Rashid since their time together at Glenbard South High School in the 90s, humorously reminisced about their shared experiences while also expressing unwavering trust in Rashid’s character and integrity.

As a symbol of inclusivity and support for local businesses, the campaign collaborated with two minority-owned restaurants and food vendors to provide meals for attendees. Additionally, Union printed Qasim for Congress signs were distributed among the supporters.

The event marked a strong beginning for Qasim Rashid’s campaign, with an emphasis on justice, fairness, and genuine representation for the people of Illinois’ 11th district.
