According to a leaked internal document, OnePlus is becoming an Oppo sub-brand after the company announced further integration with the Chinese giant. The document was leaked by Evan Blass which detailed some interesting talking points for OnePlus employees.

Just received these talking points on the new relationship between Oppo and OnePlus. Might help to clear up some confusion. pic.twitter.com/mIVyjcmeKD

The leaked document is seemingly aimed at the public relations staff on how to respond to questions from journalists and users about the recent use. While the documents reiterate the same announcement made by Peta Lau in the OnePlus forums, there was one piece of information that somewhat confirms OnePlus becoming Oppo’s subbrand. When a representative is asked about the finer details of the relationship between the two companies, the representative is expected to respond with “with the integration, OnePlus becomes a brand within OPPO[,] however, [it] will continue to function as an independent entity.”

While we already had a feeling that OnePlus was slowly becoming another brand by Oppo, this document confirms our prior assumptions. The nature of this relationship is more public now especially after the announcement and will work similarly to how Realme functions in relation to Oppo.

The document does say that OnePlus and Oppo will operate independently and will even compete with each other in markets both companies are present in. Customer data stored by OnePlus will still be stored by the brand and won’t be shared with Oppo. OnePlus already announced the integration of the Research & Development department with Oppo earlier this year.

OnePlus users evangelise OxygenOS, the operating system used in OnePlus phones however there were concerns after the announcement that the OS might be integrated as well. OxygenOS is considered to be far superior to Oppo’s ColorOS even though both share many similarities. However, in the leaked internal document, OnePlus employees were instructed to “not respond to any OS or ColorOS questions that target the integration announcement.” It also instructed that OnePlus employees use the following response “We currently do not have any updates regarding the operating systems. Please stay tuned to our official channels.”

While not officially confirmed, it could mean that we will see OxygenOS get heavily influenced by ColorOS or see further integrations that the company is not ready to talk about yet. OnePlus already uses Oppo’s ColorOS software for its smartphone in China so it doesn’t seem far-fetched that we might see future OnePlus phone in other regions use the same Android skin.
