Mumbai, Feb 29: Actress Sonam Kapoor starrer "Neerja", a biopic based on the life of Neerja Bhanot, the air hostess who sacrificed her life while saving passengers on board hijacked Pan Am flight 73, has collected Rs.50.12 crore in just 10 days since its release.

The film, which released on February 19, attracted more footfalls over the weekend due to positive word of mouth. With a collection of Rs.14.80 crore in its second weekend, "Neerja" is going strong in theatres, read a statement from the makers.

"Neerja" revolves around the hijacking of Pan Am flight 73 in Karachi, Pakistan in September 1986. It specifically narrates the story of the bravery of flight attendant Neerja Bhanot, who ensured the failure of the hijacking by preventing the plane from getting off the ground.

Backed by good content and power-packed performances, the film is expected to remain strong in the coming days at the box office, says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

"Having crossed Rs.50 crore, ‘Neerja’ should, as per current trending, reach/cross Rs.60 crore by Thursday. India biz. Content is king," Adarsh posted on Twitter on Monday.

Produced by Fox Star Studios and Bling Unplugged, the film also features Shabana Azmi, Shekhar Ravjiani and Yogendra Tiku. (Bollywood Country Report)
