Manan Trivedi for extension of rail service in PA

PENNSYLYVANIA — Flanked by Congressman Frank Pallone (D-NJ) and candidate for the 13th congressional district of Pennsylvania, Brendan Boyle recently, the candidate for Pennsylvania’s 6th congressional district, Manan Trivedi, pushed for a job creation proposal that targeted improving infrastructure and expanding rail to Reading, PA.

“We can create new American jobs that benefit American businesses already located in the Philadelphia region. You can’t outsource this work to another country and you can’t underestimate the value this work will provide to the safety and prosperity to the community,” said Trivedi.

“For years, we have heard all kinds of promises about extending rail out to the suburbs to places like Reading, and it seems it was just more political lip service. All you need to do is look at the parking lot of traffic during rush hours to know we need to alleviate congestion and provide quality access to our businesses to improve the economy.”

Pallone, who is a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee recognized the needs of the region during his appearance with Trivedi, at the meet in Pennsylvania, according to a press release.

Pallone said, “Manan Trivedi is a dedicated fighter for Pennsylvania’s middle class and he will work together to find solutions that boost our region’s economy and create new jobs. Manan will fight to make sure local businesses have the transportation and infrastructure they need to expand, hire new workers, and spur our economic growth.”

Boyle, who is running to succeed outgoing Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz, noted that the Philadelphia region’s future economic growth hinges on a long term commitment to growing regional infrastructure such as transportation.

“For years, we have seen the consequence of a failure to inject badly needed funding into our transportation system, with the threat of SEPTA rail closures and gridlock on major highways,” said Boyle.

“We know that solutions to these problems exist in extending mass transit between economic hubs such as Center City and King of Prussia to take cars off our roads. All we need is the political leadership in Washington to make these plans a reality. I’m proud to stand with on this issue with Congressman Pallone and Manan Trivedi.”

According to a 2014 report card, Pennsylvania has the highest percentage of structurally deficient bridges in the country while 57 percent of its roads are considered to be in poor or mediocre condition.

Also joining the event were John Kane representing Local 690 of the Plumbers and Pipefitters as well as members of Steamfitters Local 420.
