Lucien Favre appointed head coach of Borussia Dortmund

Berlin, May 22: Borussia Dortmund appointed Lucien Favre as their new head coach, signing a two-year contract until June 30, 2020, the Bundesliga club said on Tuesday.

The 60-year-old Swiss coach heads to Dortmund from French Ligue 1 club Nice, replacing Peter Stoger, reports Efe.

"Coaching Borussia Dortmund is an exciting task that I'm delighted to take on. I'd like to thank the directors for the faith they've shown in me. We'll now work together on the new team," Favre said in a statement released on the German club's website.

"It is one of the most interesting clubs in Europe and I'm looking forward to returning to the Bundesliga, which I know extremely well and always kept an eye on during my two years in Nice," he added.

This is Favre's third experience with the Bundesliga, after coaching Hertha Berlin in 2008/09 and Borussia Monchengladbach in 2011/12.
