Levante is Mendilibar coach

Madrid, May 30 (IANS) Spanish football club Levante has appointed Jose Luis Mendilibar as its new coach.

The club posted the news on its official website Thursday stating that Mendilibar had "reached the basis of an agreement to coach the club for the coming season. The agreement is for the 2014-2015 season with the option to extend the contract for a further year", reports Xinhua.

Mendilibar was sacked from Osasuna after just three games last season. However, he is respected for his work at the club in the previous two and a half years and in a four-year term with Valladolid.

He replaces Joaquin Caparros, who decided not to renew his contract with Levante, opting instead to join Granada on a two-year contract Wednesday.

Meanwhile after officially confirming that Bernd Schuster will not continue at the club next season, Malaga are expected to name Javi Gracia, who replaced Mendilibar at Osasuna, as their next coach.
