Warangal: Delay in issuing the orders for implementation of the Master Plan-2041, is denting the planned growth and development of the area under the jurisdiction of the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA).

Though a memo was reportedly issued in August last year after Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister KT Rama Rao signed the documents pertaining to the Master Plan-2041 in March 2020, the State government has not yet issued further orders allowing the officials of the urban development authority to take decisions on executing the development projects planned as per the Master Plan-2041.

Decry on delay

Meanwhile, the civic organisations of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC), which comes under the KUDA’s jurisdiction with regard to the area, are expressing much displeasure over the delay in implementing the Master Plan. They are claiming that the development works had come to a halt in a few projects.

“The State government has to issue a gazette notification of the Master Plan at the earliest. Development works have come to a standstill ever since the finalisation of the master plan which took over two years, got delayed” said a TRS party leader. The ambitious Master Plan 2041 was prepared by the KUDA to cater to the requirements of Greater Warangal and its surrounding areas until 2041. It was prepared after taking into consideration the growth corridors and industrial zones that would come up under the GWMC as well as KUDA limits.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Forum for Better Warangal president Pulluru Sudhakar found fault with the government for the delay in the issuance of the gazette notification on the Master Plan. He said that the non-implementation of the Master Plan was affecting the lives of many people, particularly the farmers of Somidi, Madikonda and Mamnoor, whose lands were included in the commercial zone while the farmers were opposing the same.

“About 3,000 objections/suggestions were submitted against the Master Plan 2041. But it is not known the fate of their objections since the Master Plan was not approved by the government. The signature of MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao is not the final approval, as the State government must issue a GO and a detailed gazette notification, for the implementation of the plan,” he said and added that construction of the several industries and commercial buildings were not happening due to non-implementation of the Mater Plan

Meanwhile, the Founder President of the Society for Public Welfare and Initiative (SPWI), Dr Suresh Devath has appealed to the government to take steps for the implementation of the Master Plan at the earliest by issuing the gazette notification. “Local people’s representatives including MLAs and Mayor take the issue to the notice of the Chief Minister and ensure that the notification issued,” he added.
