Japan Football Association won’t sack manager

Tokyo, Jan 24: The Japan Football Association (JFA) said national side manager Javier Aguirre, who was allegedly involved in fixing a league match in Spain, will remain on the job.

Shortly after Japan were eliminated from the Asian Cup's quarter-final on penalties for their earliest exit since 1996, JFA chairman Kuniya Daini was Friday asked if Aguirre would remain in charge of the Japan national football team, reports Xinhua.

"Yes that is so. He's done well," Daini answered.

The JFA has sent a delegation to Spain to gather information regarding a complaint filed by Spanish prosecutors over a game in May 2011, in which Aguirre's former club Zaragoza avoided relegation in a 2-1 victory over Levante.

Aguirre is among over 40 individuals accused of being involved in fixing the match.
