New Delhi, Dec 17 (IANS) Three Jamia Millia Islamia students on Tuesday filed a writ petition in the Delhi High Court seeking a court-monitored committee, headed by a retired judge of the High Court or Supreme Court, to conduct a judicial enquiry into the violence by police and paramilitary forces.

The petition, filed by three girl students of the university – Nabila Hasan, Ladida Farzana and Ayesha Renna, also demands reopening of the university and release of the students and others detained in the police action that followed Sunday’s violent protest in Jamia Nagar area.

The writ petition, filed for violation of Articles 14 and 21 of the Indian Constitution under Article 32, names the Union Home Ministry and the Delhi Police as respondents.

In their petition, the students have also demanded adequate monetary compensation for those who suffered injuries in Sunday’s violence.
