Jain Temple of Detroit Commemorates Spectacular Silver Jubilee Mahotsav

Remarkable Community Effort: Temple Expansion Fund Surpasses $500,000 in Donations

DETROIT, MI- The Jain Society of Greater Detroit (JSGD) celebrated its momentous 25th Anniversary with a 10-day festival that took place from July 7th to July 16th. During this remarkable occasion, the community came together and raised an impressive $500,000 in donations for the expansion of their temple.

The festivities commenced with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony, graced by the presence of the deputy mayor of Farmington Hills, Randy Bruce. From its humble beginnings in 1989, the society has grown exponentially and now boasts a membership of over 700 families.

Throughout the 10-day celebration, the community was engaged in various daily events. These included morning prayer services conducted by Narendrabhai Nandu and his team, workshops, a captivating performance of the life of Chitra Bhanu by the talented team from India known as Maitri Bhav, cultural performances, and educational sessions focused on Jain teachings. Each day saw hundreds of attendees participating in different activities and coming together to enjoy delicious meals. The last weekend proved to be particularly grand, with over 1000 people attending.

A core value for the Jain Society of Greater Detroit is giving back to the community. Under their leadership, the organization has been actively involved in annual blood drives, food drives, and various service projects to support those in need. The members wholeheartedly volunteer their time and resources to extend a helping hand to others, firmly believing that even small acts of kindness can create a significant impact.

The society is deeply grateful for the unwavering support of all its members, volunteers, and friends throughout the past 25 years. It is this collective effort and dedication that has led JSGD to achieve remarkable distinctions. Together, they have transformed the Jain Temple into a warm and inclusive sanctuary for everyone. Embracing the values of Jainism, the community fosters unity among diverse individuals and helps them grow spiritually and personally.

About the Jain Society of Detroit
(JSGD): The Jain Society of Greater Detroit (JSGD) is a group of people who follow Jain teachings. A notable community effort of the JSGD the Jain Organization of Youth (JOY). Comprised of dozens of devoted teenagers, JOY is not only dedicated to learning valuable JAIN lessons but to upholding the values of the JSGD. Other JSGD community efforts include bi-monthly studies groups focusing on learning key teachings of Jainism, fundraising events, and inviting scholars from around the world to lectures on Jainism to our members.
