SAN JOSE, CA- The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office on May 28 arrested an Indian American transient woman in unincorporated San Jose, Calif., who allegedly attacked an elderly couple and attempted to burglarize their home.

Rehnu Singh, 50, attempted to break into the home of Christina Youkhaneh, 76, and Yousef Youkhaneh, 82, from the back door at about 6 pm.

When Christina Youkhaneh confronted Singh, the transient then retaliated using a wooden club-type object, according to sheriff’s officials. Christina was able to re-enter the house, though suffering injuries to her head and hands.

Despite the altercation, Singh continued her pursuit to get into the house when Yousef approached the would-be burglar and got into an altercation that took them to the driveway of the home.

According to reports, Yousef said that several cars drove by as the altercation was ongoing, but no one stopped to help.

Yousef managed to detain Singh until sheriff’s deputies arrived about 10 minutes later, reports said. Sheriff’s officials said that when deputies arrived, Yousef and Singh were in the middle of the street.

Singh was arrested and charged with elder abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, attempted burglary and probation violation. Singh, who was already on probation for burglary, is being held without bail.

Christina Youkhaneh was transported to a hospital to be treated for injuries not considered life-threatening. She received eight stitches for her head injury.
