Indian Origin Man Gets Prison Term For Obstructing Investigation on Fake Truck Driver Licenses

SACRAMENTO, CA- Jaswinder Singh, 60 of Los Angeles, has been sentenced to serve a nine-month prison sentence and to pay a $7,500 fine for attempting to obstruct an official proceeding U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert of the Eastern District of California said.

Singh contacted a trial witness in a pending federal criminal case and instructed the witness to lie to law enforcement as a trial date approached.

The witness knew that Singh and others had participated in a complicacy to bribe a DMV official to fraudulently obtain California commercial driver’s licenses for numerous drives who did not want to take (or could not pass) the necessary tests.

According to court documents, in August 2021, Singh instructed the witness to tell law enforcement that the witness knew nothing, not to mention anything about him or his participation in the conspiracy to help others obtain fraudulent commercial driver licenses, and not to name any names.

Singh also told the witness not to talk on the phone and said that it was very important for them to make sure their stories were line one another.

At another time, Singh himself provided false statements about his knowledge and his role to law enforcement while the conspiracy was under investigation.

This case is the product of an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations, the FBI, and the California DMV, Office of Internal Affairs. Singh had faced a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years n Prison.
