BEAUMONT, TX — Dr. Vinaya Manchaiah, an Indian American associate professor and director of audiology at Lamar University, was named to the 2016 Jerger Future Leaders of Audiology class by the American Academy of Audiology.

Manchaiah is among a 12-member class which was announced recently.

He has studied at the University of Mysore (bachelor’s), the University of Southampton (master’s), Nova Southeastern University (doctorate in audiology), Swansea University (executive M.B.A.) and Linkoping University (doctor of philosophy).

Manchaiah serves as the Jo Mayo Endowed professor in Lamar’s speech and hearing science department.

He also serves as the co-founder and president of nongovernment organization Audiology India, which seeks to foster ear and hearing health care in India.

He has been at the company since 2011 and joined the Lamar University staff in early 2015.

Manchaiah and the other honorees were invited to the American Academy of Audiology’s fifth biennial Jerger Future Leaders of Audiology Conference during September 11-13 in Reston, Va.

The Future Leaders conference was launched in 2008 as a way to develop the future leaders of audiology, taking place every other year (2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016).

The conference was renamed to honor the leadership of the one of the academy’s founders and its first president, Dr. James F. Jerger, in 2012.

The American Academy of Audiology, one of the world’s largest professional audiologist organizations, has more than 12,000 active members and is dedicated to providing quality hearing care services through professional development, education, research and increased public awareness of hearing and balance disorders.
