SAN JOSE, CA- Indian American scientist Surekha Gangakhedkar has testified in the ongoing Elizabeth Holmes case. On Sep 17, Gangakhedkar, a former senior scientist at Theranos, the now-defunct blood testing firm which came under a scanner for using questionable lab equipment.
Surekha Gangakhedkar who worked in Theranos until 2013 testified in a court in San Jose that she was pushed by founder Holmes to approve tests of the company’s Edison machines even though they were not accurate. She had also explained her reasons for quitting to the founder. Gangakhedkar also said that she was stressed and unhappy with the way the launch was going. She said, “I was not comfortable with the plans so I made a decision to resign.”
Theranos was founded by Elizabeth Holmes in 2003 and was touted as a breakthrough health technology that could make blood tests quicker and easier. However, these claims were found to be false.
In 2018, Holmes and former company president Ramesh “Sunny’’ Balwani were charged with fraud.
