Indian American Motel Owner in Alabama Shot and Killed over Room Rental

ALABAMA- A 76-year-old Indian American motel owner in Alabama was shot and killed after a disagreement with a man over the rent of the motel room. Pravin Raojibhai Patel, was the owner of Hillcrest Motel in Sheffield. He was found dead last week on February 8.

Soon after the discovery of his death, police arrested William Jeremy Moore in connection with the incident. The al.com report said “Following a police pursuit, after officers said he was trying to break into an abandoned house,” the al.com report said. He is currently being held in the Sheffield City Jail until he is transferred to the Colbert County Jail.”

According to the investigators, “Moore wanted to rent a room at the motel, when an altercation with Patel took place.” A barber across the street said, according to reports, that there were “three gunshots going off back-to-back.”

Patel is survived by his wife, Renuka, and children, Nital and Nirmal.
