CHICAGO, IL — This week, Governor JB Pritzker announced a near billion dollar tax break for Illinoisans over the next 30 years by achieving what countless governors have failed to do — seal a deal on the sale of the James R. Thompson Center. Not only will the agreement put money back into the pockets of working families, but it includes a transformative sale bringing high-paying jobs from Google to the heart of Chicago.

“Welcoming a tech giant to the Thompson Center is the latest in a strong line of economic wins Governor Pritzker has delivered for Illinois working families,” said JB for Governor spokeswoman Eliza Glezer. “Whether it’s Google, Kellogg or Ferrero, the Governor’s fierce commitment to a vibrant and diverse economic future is attracting businesses and good-paying jobs across the state.”

Following decades of financial mismanagement by previous administrations, Governor Pritzker is getting the state’s fiscal house in order and putting Springfield back on the side of working families. Governor Pritzker’s fiscal responsibility has eliminated the state’s bill backlog, enabled him to enact four consecutive balanced budgets and deliver an unprecedented amount of tax relief to working families. He also restored $1 billion to the depleted rainy day fund and earned Illinois not one, but six credit rating upgrades for the first time in over two decades.

Google’s move to the Thompson Center follows Ferrero’s decision to open a Loop innovation center for their first-ever U.S. Kinder Bueno plant and Kellogg’s choice to move its headquarters to Chicago.
