LOS ANGELES, CA – A man from Michigan, Mohamed Abou-Arabi, has been found guilty of first-degree murder for the 2022 death of a Dearborn, Michigan resident in Santa Monica, California. The victim was discovered on November 2, 2022, in a vehicle parked north of the Santa Monica Pier. Authorities reported that the victim had been stabbed multiple times, shortly after purchasing the vehicle from a private seller in Southern California.

Through a detailed investigation, including DNA evidence from the scene, Santa Monica police identified Abou-Arabi as the suspect. His movements from California back to Michigan after the murder were traced, leading to his arrest in January 2023 when Santa Monica detectives traveled to Michigan.

Abou-Arabi, who has been in custody since January 18, 2023, was convicted in September 2024 and is scheduled for sentencing in December. Though he had no prior criminal record in California, Abou-Arabi had two previous arrests in Michigan for misdemeanor weapons offenses. A motive for the killing remains unclear, but reports indicate that the victim was a friend of Abou-Arabi.
