El Paso Border Patrol Hosts Event to Raise Awareness on Risks of Unauthorized Crossings

EL PASO, TX – U.S. Border Patrol El Paso Sector highlights the dangers and consequences faced by migrants who attempt to cross the border illegally with the help of transnational criminal organizations.

The sector has recorded 149 migrant rescues and 29 migrant deaths so far in FY2023. The criminal organizations often exploit vulnerable individuals, putting their lives in danger, and forcing them into debt bondage or even sex trafficking. Juvenile drivers are also recruited and exploited, leading to dangerous and sometimes deadly situations on the roads.

The El Paso Sector has taken steps to counter these ruthless actions by installing rescue beacons and providing medical care to migrants in need. The sector also welcomes assistance from the community and encourages citizens to report suspicious activity.
