Deva Katta talks about ‘Republic’

BUY-SELL | HELP WANTED | MATRIMONIAL

Hyderabad: As Sai Dharam Tej’s upcoming political thriller ‘Republic’ is set to hit big screens on October 1, director Deva Katta threw some light as to how he dealt with the subject and how the idea prompted him to making a full-length feature film.

“We all make a hue and cry about the system. The idea of making a full-fledged movie has been twitching when I was in the USA, knowing the country’s democratic function. Later when I came back to India, I happened to observe the system here. We feel that we’re living in a democratic state and believe that the system is in place to take care of people and their well-being, which is not real,” says Deva Katta.

Elaborating, he says, “If we have to define a system, we bring various “isms”: capitalism, crony capitalism, communism and socialism. But, how deeply we are aware of these terms? Power is balanced when there is proper regulation in place.”

Starring Aishwarya Rajesh, Ramya Krishna and Jagapathi Babu in key roles, ‘Republic’ is being produced jointly by J Pulla Rao and J Bhagawan under the JB Entertainments banner, in association with Zee Studios.

Deva further adds, “Actor Sai Dharam Tej is an apolitical and neutral individual. When I had narrated the story to him, he could relate to the reality as a common man and asked me to work on the project with him. We’ve been seeing a plethora of problems in a democratic state; ‘Republic’ addresses them with solutions,” he adds.

Stating that his political thriller doesn’t mimic the mainstream political events or parties as such, Deva says the story discusses how political pressures exerted on bureaucracy. It is just a small aspect of the story as the film has several other parallel subjects to give a broader picture to common man,” says the director, adding that ‘Republic’ is made in an unbiased and neutral manner to leave a deep impact on the audiences.
