New Delhi, May 11 (IANS) The Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MoRTH) on Tuesday set up a three-member panel to ready a policy framework for taxi and other transport operators.

The committee will be headed by Secretary MoRTH while the Joint Secretary, MoRTH, and the Delhi Transport Commissioner will be its members.

The decision was taken following a meeting of taxi and other transport operators with MoRTH Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday, apprising him of the situation that has emerged following the Supreme Court’s order banning diesel taxis in the National Capital Region (NCR).

"They (transporters) apprised the minister about various problems they were facing as a result of the ban. The ministry has decided to set up the three-member committee to look into these issues and come up with appropriate policy recommendations to address the same in a time bound manner," said a statement from the ministry.
