CHICAGO, IL- The Chicago Public Library Foundation has received a $2 million grant from the Mellon Foundation to support the Renaissance Project, aimed at providing access to Black history-related archives across library branches in Chicago.
The project will promote equity, uplift marginalized voices, and contribute to educational and cultural development, as well as racial healing. The grant will be used to digitize critical documents related to Black history and bring high-quality research materials and programming to every branch across the city. The project will also create new open-source curricula and tools to inform teaching of Black history in public schools. The project is expected to be completed by March 2027.
