Centre to emulate Telangana-like fever survey

BUY-SELL | HELP WANTED | MATRIMONIAL

Hyderabad: Telangana is showing the way for the Centre and other States in implementing Covid-19 containment measures. The latest such initiative by the State government was the ongoing door-to-door fever survey which is now garnering the attention of others.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi who chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi called for augmenting healthcare resources in rural areas to focus on door-to-door testing and surveillance. He also sought to empower ASHA and Anganwadi workers with all necessary tools. He suggested scaling up testing with the use of both RT-PCR and rapid tests, especially in areas with high positivity rate.

However, Telangana has already initiated the fever survey following the directions of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. The initiative was aimed at early detection of Covid-19 patients to ensure fewer hospitalisation. The fever survey proved to be an effective method to treat patients at home rather than wasting time on testing all the individuals.

It may be recalled that Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Harsh Vardhan expressed satisfaction over the preventive measures being taken up by the State government as well as the treatment being provided to Covid patients during a video conference on Wednesday.

The State government had deployed nearly 24,885 teams to 70 lakh households covering nearly 70 per cent of households within one week. In places where the cases are severe, the household survey is being conducted multiple times. As a result, the Health officials identified over 2.6 lakh persons with flu-like symptoms similar to Covid-19 and distributed home isolation kits with necessary medication to them.
