SAVANNAH, GA. – During the 2024 federal fiscal year, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers intercepted 18 stolen vehicles valued at around $1.1 million during outbound enforcement operations and container inspections in Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia.
These vehicles were bound for countries like Ghana, Libya,
Jordan, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. In contrast, in the 2023 fiscal year, officers recovered 59 stolen vehicles at ports of entry in Charleston and Savannah, with an estimated domestic value exceeding $7.5 million. These vehicles, ranging from sedans to luxury SUVs, were obtained through various fraudulent means, including using stolen credit cards and fraudulent identities or stealing them from rental car companies. CBP’s efforts have significantly disrupted the operations of Transnational Criminal Organizations, aiding victims in reclaiming their property and impeding the financial flows of criminal enterprises.
The recovered vehicles were handed over to the Georgia Port Authority Police and South Carolina Law Enforcement Divisions for proper disposition. CBP remains committed to its border security mission, safeguarding American businesses and citizens while combating illicit activities that threaten national safety and economic well-being.
