Cannes Film Fest’s Actual List Revealed At Last

Chennai : After weeks of suspense that were filled with fictitious lists and predictions, the official lineup for the 65th Cannes Film Festival was announced in Paris just before noon on Thursday, April 19.

Walter Salles On the Road and Michael Haneke’s Amour will be part of the Festival’s top Competition of 21 movies. An addition or two is possible before the Festival kicks on May 16.

Figuring in the list – announced at Paris’ Grand Hotel Intercontinental by Festival president Gilles Jacob and artistic director Thierry Fremaux – are Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy, Jacques Audiard’s Rust and Bone and David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis.

Also screening in Competition are Holy Motors by Leos Carax, The Angels’ Share by Ken Loach and Andrew Dominik’s Killing Them Softly with Brad Pitt, who returns to Cannes this year again. He was part of Terrence Malik’s The Tree of Life in 2011.

Another significant entry will be veteran director Alain Resnais, who is knocking 90 but still running. The title of his work, You Haven’t Seen Anything Yet, (an adaptation of Jean Anouilh’s Eurydice starring Cannes veteran Mathieu Amalric) says it all!

Among the special screenings announced are The Central Park Five by Ken Burns, Sarah Burns and David McMahan, and Roman Polanski: A Film Memoir by Laurent Bouzereau.

The Out-of-Competition film slate includes Me and You from Bernardo Bertolucci.

Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom will open the 12-day Festival on the French Riviera, and Claude Miller’s last work before he died early this month, Therese Desqueyroux (with Audrey Tautou), will close the event on May 27.

The Artist star Berenice Bejo will be Mistress of Ceremonies, both on the opening and closing nights.
